30 Years of the Monster

The Munster is turning 30 this year and Ducati is celebrating with a special edition Muster that is the lightest bike to ever have that name. At 406 pounds it's 8 pounds lighter than the standard. This is done by lighter Ohlins forks, Brembo brakes and the forged wheel that are lighter than the standard items.
The forged wheels are 3-1/2 pounds lighter than the standards wheels which decreases the moment of inertia by over 21% on the front wheel and 26.9% on the rear.

I was taken back that a measly 3.5 pounds could make that much of a difference.

Just because it's a special edition it doesn't mean maintenance needs to go up. With oil changes at nearly 10,000 miles apart and valve adjustments at 19,000 miles it's not a high maintenance model.

Take that bike, swap the 937cc engine out and replace it with the V2's 955cc beltless engine tuned to make about 130 to 140 bhp while keeping the 69 lbs-ft of torque, make sure it carries at least 4.5 gallons of fuel, and,  if you keep that mix to the 18k price, I am sold, immediately. I never want to own a bike with internal belts for valve timing, ever again. (That is unless someone practically gives me one)

The red trellis frame is much more pleasing to the eyes.

You can buy a used Monster 1200R with 160 bhp and 93 lbs-ft of torque for as little as 10.5K, with modest miles. No lean sensitive stuff on them but if you want a Monster, a 1200R really fits the name. Much better than this 937cc anniversary model.  It's true (in my opinion) that the big Monsters have not looked really good since 2015, what with the back-of-a-refrigerator looking left side, but they certainly perform, and the R (especially in black) looks the best.

I still say the pre 2014 Monsters are the better looking Monsters.
I'd like to own one for a try. A M750 will do just fine.

That is the styling that I love the most too.  But I wouldn't get that example - the exhaust looks so illegal I'd be stopped by LEO before I got out of my driveway.
