Assen Motogp

Celebrating 100 years at Assen.
A portion of the first race won by Piet van Wijngaarden.

The 1925 and 1926 were national Dutch race only. Wijinggaarden won both. In  the ‘26 race even though he started a lap behind due to bike issues he ended a half hour ahead of 2nd place.
He was running a 500cc Norton.

The Michelin medium is not doing well on the cooler Assen track.
Marc had a fast get off in FP1. FP2 was a crash fast in the first 10 minutes and Marc had another very fast get off that threatens his chance of fatherhood. I believe he was seeing stars by the way got out of the gravel with assistance.

Ai Ogura bbqed his bike in a high side at turn 11 causing a red flag.
Quartararo looking strong.
Dramatic.

Sprint = track limit warnings for 50% of the riders and a couple penalties.

Watched the Sprint, and Moto3 and MotoGP.

The racing was Assen-‘Goode,’especially Moto3.
But I’m disturbed by MotoGP’s pre-race and post-race theatrical production values.

I guess the machines, track, weather, strategy, and racing have been deemed to be ‘not enough’ by Liberty as to be interesting.

Perhaps this was a one-off display for the TT centenary, and not a new era of showbiz glitz.

Examples?  If you could?

I missed the whole show.
But I’m interested in your point of  view.

I doubt them getting sold is already seeping into their production.
But, you never know.
The new owners may have bussed in a dozen or so producers to Dorna the very next day.

I don’t watch F1, are the issues you noticed similar to those of the F1 broadcasts?

Ps.  Thanks Oldiron for all you do with the league.
A thankless job at times.  Summer slows a bit I’ll be back in. 👍

Appreciate you Grado 👍👍
Thanks!

Two small touches, but coming days after the buyout was officially approved, they seemed to glare.

Pre-race, instead of the grid swarm/anthem/flyover/race-start they add a mini-concert with two different music groups… because, why?? It’s ASSEN!!! What are you waiting for ??? Start the race!

This indicates they think we’re bored. We are not bored of motorcycle racing. We are bored of shallow pointless packaging and fake glitz. Our lives are full of inauthenticity.

But, maybe the concert was an aberration.

Except for post-race when the podium changed to a curtain draped scaffolding arrangement that displayed the top three to wave while three elevators rammed the three motorcycles up through the floor of the podium between blasts of smoke-jets to join the MM, Bezzecchi, and Bagnaia.

I thought all the glitz was because it was Assen’s 100th.
I guess we will see at Germany.
Fortunately I never catch it life saw I use the fast forward button to fly by the blah blah.

A likely reason ^
I realize I shouldn’t care one way or the other, but I do have my druthers. :)
