A couple friends and I had plans to ride south a couple hours to catch the eclipse in perfect alignment but the surgery in my knee because of a staph infection deemed me unable to go.

One took a short video.

Here at work we had about a 98% eclipse. Didn't get real dark. It's amazing how bright it was with only 2% of the sun showing through.
In 2017 it got so dark the crickets started their mating calls and the birds sat still in the trees.

Not heading in to Austin was smart.
Llano got malted milk ball sized hail.
Austin had baseball-sized hail.
Cold in the morning, and ttied to dry stuff out until the sun got eclipsed by clouds.
Took all backroads to COTA, cutting a path through Texas Hill Country. 1323, 2755, 150 featured three-dimensional variation with 40 to 90 mph sweepers. Also noted were two cattle guards cutting across the roadway at the apex. 😬.
More outrageous wildflowers to distract one’s focus.
Kind of snuck into COTA two days early.
One guard said no entry.
Asked to go to the ticket office.
Lady there said go to LotN and ask.
Turns out LotN people have no idea.
So about 25 sites are set up.
Still, the wind roars.

Yeah buddy.  Starting to look more enjoyable.
How was the riding in them dar hills?
Is it all on top or in some valley as well?

Congratulations to reaching COTA. Great track with some fun go carts on the side.

I hope you get to enjoy some of the Austin weirdness.  If memory serves me correctly it’s 6th street that has the open entry bars. You could just walk down the street to catch what bar is playing what tickles your ear.

Enjoy my friend.  I’m glad you’re there.

My apologies on the t bucket comment .

Austin I hear sucks huge.
My buddy moved to the area over ten years ago in the hope of getting involved in the music scene there.
But he found austin has all the negatives of the big cities you see on TV channels willing to show it. Homeless living on the streets . Drugs . Crime. Crowded.
He lives outside of town and has a Brit bike repair/resto bizz. Plays guitar on Sat nites and loves texas .
But not Austin . He hates it.

Let me tell ya ‘bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above …

Ok. Sorry . A little b4 your times I guess.
Things pop into my mind from time to time .
All this talk about the moon and now birds and trees .

No need. There are days I still wish I had it but the 54 F100 requires much less care and cleaning.
Unfortunately, I bent a valve in the back left. I got a little heavy footed on the 460 ci during a burnout and ran it too high for too long but it was one hell of a burnout and made me laugh like a little boy.
Worth it.
I haven't decided if I'm going to stick some refurbished heads or some aluminum racing heads.
Heck, I might even go stupid cheap by pulling the head and just replace the bad valve(s) and guide(s).

That's what I did when I was young 20's poor. Had a 73 LTD with a 460. Bought it for 200 bucks because it had some burnt valves but ran fair and was in good shape. Pulled the heads bought a few valves, lapped the seats and stuck it back together. Car ran flawless until I tried to dig a ditch with it and broke the frame.

Sorry OINow. Didn't mean to thread jack.

Not hijacker thread it’s just evolved.
I love them old trucks but they have become made of gold in the last few years.
I would prefer a stock motor or somewhat mello small block replacement . And of course patina !!!
But I can’t see paying the asking prices. Just go go to Home Depot once or twice a month.
So I get Hemings Motor News and keep my eye on the market. Perhaps a 70’s short bed or better yet step side
I cooked the rear end in one I had years ago . I should have fixed it . But love and learn .
