Austrian MotoGP 2023

Friday is on the bag, and by the time any of y’all read this, Saturday is likely done as well.

This is the second round where the ‘value’ of individual sessions is different:

“The opening MotoGP session of the weekend, Free Practice 1 on Friday morning, will no longer influence qualifying in any way. For the remainder of the season, the newly dubbed 'Practice' on Friday afternoon will be the only session – other than Q1 and Q2 themselves – to impact qualifying.“

I know it doesn’t count but just watched FP1 and saw Quartararo hold first place for a good part of the practice until Zarco took first in the last few minutes. Good to see.

According to commentaries Honda squelched the rumors that they are looking for an exit to MOTOGP more like doubling down to figure out how to get back on top.

It was nice to see Marquez the Younger getting in a good groove.

Martin’s enthusiastic riding got dealt with fairly, imo.
It was right on the edge.

Should Zarco take the Honda ride?

Zarco should take the ride. He's 35 and sticking with Ducati another season for a chance to later join WSBK at 36 probably doesn't seem that appealing.

As for Martin's turn 1 incident, yeah he was riding perhaps too aggressively, but Vinales's messed up start and rapid fall back through the ranks created a pressure wave of bikes avoiding Mav's Aprilia, turning Martin's aggression into an accident. He was pushing through when the room to push through was disappearing at a rapid rate.

Zarco - already a journeyman. Continue the journey

Martin - old-school rules
