I’m likely not the best guide, using all kinds of gunk for whatever fits the locus of chain condition and my mood about it.

Lithium grease
Bell Ray lube
Bell Ray wax
and an old can of ZEP45 penetrating oil.

.
Choose to Ride. Supports splitting everywhere.

Been using the stuff from autozone.
In the shelving that has power steering, atf,
seafoam.  It’s in a can with a little red tube that sticks in the nozzle.

It ain’t Bel Ray or whatever, but works just as well.

I use WD40. Gear oil is supposed to be what must chain manufacturers recommend.

Fortnine has a test of chain lubes on youtube

Gear oil?  Who’d a thunk it.
I should have watched fort9 before stopping by the auto parts store to get a filter.
They had Lucas chain lube on the shelf so that was my selection. I’m a fan of the Lucas Oil products.
The independent HD shop is closed on the Sabbath and Monday. I wanted to get it done this weekend. So settled on Lucas.

I guess I’ll finish it and try the gear oil.
I’m thinking the spray would be easier because of the red tube. Using it the chain guard doesn’t have to be removed.
