Daytona 2022 200. By MotoAmerica.

Yes boys, it looks as tho MotoAmerica, the guys that run The National Championship Series here in the States, will be the promoters at the Daytona 200 in 2022.

ASRA Racing has held the fort down these last few years, actually running the event,
along with their East Coast Series. Hats off to those guys for the hard work and support they have shown.

Having Wayne Rainey and Company involved should elevate the stature of that event
a step or 2, something that is long overdue.

Cliff notes from what is seen.......no, The 200 will not be a part of the National Championship. Yes, it will be part of The Baggers Championship. In order to try and attract
a larger, and more varied field they are indicating there will be some kind if World Supersport Technical Rules included. Whatever that means. They indicate those rules will open the possibility for Triumph, Ducati and maybe MV to enter bikes that will be competitive with the likes of the 600cc crotch rockets of Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha,
Since it will not be part of the USA Nationals, the event will be open to all comers.
Purse, $175,000.

Daytona 2022.  Bike Week.  AMA Supercross.  The 200.  The beach.  The Sun.  Bikinis.

Yeah Baby!

Ya, I think so.

It's amazing how far that event has slipped in terms of stature.

Funny, last year, I called around trying to find out if they were gonna run or not.
The Covid thing had everything messed up.
And let me tell you guys, just finding someone that would pick the phone up was a chore.
Even the people at the permits office in The Town Of Daytona did not know what was up with that event.

After leaving a dozen or so messages, both phone and email, with everyone I thought might be even remotely connected, a guy from ASRA actually called me back.  Granted, it took a week, I had almost forgotten I had even left a message, but hey, they called.

I was told it was they, their organization that actually provided the flagging, scoring and hardware needed to run the 200.   And that they kinda did it as a favor, to DMG, mainly because they were running an event in their series right around that time anyway.  And that the whole sheebang relied on vendors being able to rent spaces to sell stuff.  Which they couldn't do because the Town Of Daytona didn't know if they wanted to grant the permits for them to do so.  Because of the number of people and the Covid thing.

Well, we talked for awhile, me and the guy from ASRA.

Said he had only been into bikes for a few years, and yeah, had heard a The 200 used to be a pretty big deal.  And that there were somewhere around 40 teams, or people, that had shipped bikes that were sitting in storage all around Daytona. Hopeing they were gonna run.  From as far as Europe and South America.  And that The AMA or The FIM had nothing to do with the event at all.

I was incredulous, and thought wtf is going on?

Anyways, it's great the guys at ASRA helped to keep it going, and great that now a national promoter has stepped up.  Who knows, a few years, they figure out how to keep a Superbikes rear tire from exploding on the banks, that place just could become a part of our National Championship.

And boy, wouldn't that be cool.......

MG!

What an amazing investigation! Immesnse PROPS!

I agree with your opinion of the ASRA group's efforts; They are amazing. The passion to not quit on history.

The tale of staged race gear from around the world is so heartening! There are others of us who still believe.

I have read recently of Dorna looking to expand the idea of what is 'Supersport'

Here is a negative take on that:

Here's a Roadracing World article about the Bagger test:

Supports splitting everywhere.
