Fat2boy. build history of his BSA

i figure i would try and put all this build stuff in an ordered history rather than just send Kirk random pictures.
A65 i built (with lots of help) for the 2009 Amateur Chop Off (ACO) held that particular year at Rockingham Raceway in North Carolina. Sponsored by the late great The Horse Backstreet Choppers magazine.
this was a yearly event. The mags editor suggested i build a bike and enter the show. David Eman Gregory. he was also my web master  when i had Hacksaws Garage website. as a side note he builds guitars now. i do have one he made at my request to build in the spirit of the short  scale Rickenbacker 6 string Lennon used with the early Beatles.

back to the bike. it started out as a 1965 BSA Thunderbolt Rocket. i bought it in Pa.

unfortunately i dont have my original design sheet.
i used another frame i had kicking around so i wouldnt have to take the one above apart while the frame was altered. the frame i brought to Tigman in Rockland Ma. fantastic craftsman. Dave Huntress. World Class Welding Mechanics/Tanks by Tigman.





what i didnt want is a strait drop in the rear section. instead i wanted the new section to be curved in the style of the BSA frame side rails . i also wanted a beefier tubing than i see most chops have. sorry i forgot the size.
with 4-5" stretch, the frame will sit at the stock height with stock wheels. and not look too long.

I remember watching your build through CW. Sure wish there was a way to get those post back.

I've taken your bike on a few puts in the Ozark hills. She likes it.,,, No,, she loves it.
You should hear the way she sings that beastly crawl from those fantastic looking mufflers as the song bounces off the cut out limestone rock walls and back into my smiling ears. Freakin awesome.

Speaking of that great sound, could you please tell me where those mufflers came from. They are the coolest mufflers I've ever seen.

omg! you have been enchanted! they arent actually mufflers. nothing in them.
and like richard harris , i will never have that recipe again. oh nooooooo!

the muffler story.  a guy going by the name of Cycoholic is/was a fabricator out in Ca. somewhere. he called them Aces of Beaks. i had to have a set for this bike. he made them for me. he said the bsa pipe size would be tuff to do so thats why they are in harley size i think 1-3/4 I.D. and shimmed to fit.
i havent been able to reach him so this maybe it. i almost took them off. lol. but decided i had to keep the bike as built. which i am glad i did. this is before you got involved. and man, i am telling you, that sound off those rock walls on the throttle is , as you now know, soul stirring. iron barrels man. you know yourself from your ironhead days.
anyone think electric bikes can replace this?

 

eastwood silver heat paint. been on there since 2009. so its good stuff. one is supposed to apply and and heat it when its dry. which i did. by running them on the bike! hahahaha!

i cant insert the pic of the muffler on the bike i sent you before. says its too big and to use resize option. of which i have no clue.

I’m glad you didn’t take them off. They fit that bike like nothing else can. You picked the right,,,,, what do you call it if it attaches like a muffler but has no silencer capability?
Pipe extension?

That’s cool Kieth. Thank you.  I’m printing that.
The exhaust extenders and the fender strut is two of the things that I really like on your build.
They will not be seen anywhere else except on this bike.
And they complement each other so well.

There might be.
I’ll look into it after the holidays, one gets to messing around on the other side, eh, it’s easy to spend hours trying to figure out how this place works.

axle plates, new kick stand stand off and
tank and bars. i flipped these bars to give me the look to sort of match the sissy bar and the scale of the tank

bottom pic shows the original"drop trees"  which didnt work with the shrouds . i forget why. lol.

I’m curious, is the drop tree a BSA item?
