From the article:
"Zeitz did not provide any specifics, but these are likely separate from models like the X350 and X500 produced by Qianjiang, as well as the X440 produced by Hero MotoCorp (pictured above). These three models are produced entirely by QJ and Hero, with both companies licensing the use of the Harley-Davidson brand. Zeitz was speaking about new investment in developing entry-level models, which would be separate from these licensing agreements."
As stated, The X440 is India made. The article doesn't say that the new segment of entry level bikes will be Chinese made
There some good info in that read. Sounds like the new sportsters are not selling like they wish. It's just not a good blank canvas IMO. And HD doesn't have one. Add some bolt-on pegs, maybe some rearsets a new seat and where else do you go. It's like a Honda Shadow. Buy it and ride it. I think HD screwed the pooch by dropping the tried and tru Evo sporty. They used to sell everyone of those they made. I saw in a dealer in Illinois a brand new 2023 Sportster S for $13,999.00. I'll wait for a used one if I ever decide to buy one. I'm already seeing them below $10k
The article also said the baggers are still holding well but the softail line is falling back. Another sign of dropping the Dyna line was a mistake.
I hope someone can nock the Geschäftsführer out from behind the driving wheel before he drives the whole thing off a cliff.
Of course HD's total net profit was $455 million last year so maybe they are reading the reports through champagne glass.
