HELMET "THIRD" BRAKE LIGHT?

Allred
So Brake Free has come out with an LED "brake light" that you can stick to your helmet. It doesn't operate by way of your front or rear brake operation, rather it lights up when it detects deceleration.
https://www.cycleworld.com/story/blogs/ienatsch-tuesday/brake-free-led-helmet-light-review/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&tp=i-1NGB-Et-Ty6-1IFryc-1c-12Y9c-1c-1IFv6s-l5rThiYbBR-1rxb6X

Sounds like a good idea, but watching Nick Ienatsch's video demonstration of it I think it will only confuse the cage drivers. Because it comes on independent of any brake operation it doesn't intuitively tell the observer that it is actually a brake light, it's only when it happens to come on at the same time as the rear brake light that it becomes obvious what it is. And when that does happen, I think it's a good thing.

It seems a little bulky for such a modern device, and maybe it should be a little more sophisticated than just a peel-and-stick application? At $160 bucks it seems a little pricey for an LED light with what is basically an electronic version of a mercury switch.

So, a good idea, but really needs to be a bluetooth device that pairs with your rear brake light switches/electrical circuitry, that way it would come on simultaneously with the brake light and be the "third" brake light it is supposed to be.

Great idea imo.
Not too sure with the way it works now, I'd like to see it work in conjunction with the brake lights.
You know it's possible, wifi it or something.

Food for thought, the AMA has outlawed certain types of helmet cams at the Nationals.
First, the ones sticking up on top, they say if you fall it can act like a lever and snap the head back or forward much more severely.  Guys are now mounting them on their chests, or under the visor.

Second, no more drilling holes for screw or bolts in the helmet itself.   They say it hurts the integrity of the helmet.

Yes, I have to admit that "peel and stick" may be the best/only real option, the unit in question just looks so large and bulky for such method, but a slimmer, lighter more svelte design would probably work fine with that method.

Pretty good idea and surprised it's only $160.00 but I did a quick search and found that Sykik Rider makes a couple of these helmet brake lights that fit the bill at less money and a better looking design.
The SRHL5 light works on deceleration like Brake Free.

It's forty bucks and is held on with magnets.

For 60 bucks Sykik has a helmet light that syncs with your lights with a module that attaches to your wiring.
It has running, brake and directional capabilities.

I have to say if I was looking to get one of these I would go with Sykik, plus it's a cooler name.

I like the fact that the brake light function works on deceleration rather than off the brake light. This would be helpful when riding behind another rider if the front man has one since bikes tend to use a lot of  engine braking.

Thankfully we don't have to wear a stinky light up helmet.

Missouri just dropped the helmet law.
I still wear mine most times mainly to keep my head warm.
For short trips to work or the store I don’t always unless it’s really cold.

I dislike helmet laws.

Internal combustion is threatened in a big way.

The next battle is going to be over the right to ride my old motorcycles.

I agree,,, just like seat belt laws. Because of my lack of growth them sit belts ride right on my neck. Annoy the crap out of me causing me to get angry, start road rage and shoot people.
Luckily I live in a carry free state.
