Despite the fact I personally have lost respect for the Mother (fucker) Company , years of riding HD since the AMF era has me taking a look at their expensive crap from time to time.

2024 Breakout .
25-26K?
Out of my league but a beautiful machine. In their world of boring flat greys and creams and shitty looking all black motors , the Breakout is a breakthrough !
Best looking overall HD they produce.

This post was updated on .
On the other hand , one can get a couple of year old softail standard for less than 10k.
New ones are more of course , but still a great deal for anyone whom just wants to ride modern HD on a budget .
But the real issue is how it provides a blank canvas for those faithful to old days of making a bike their own without a dealer Chrome Consultant.

With Dealers listing used evo sportsters for 9k,
It’s amazing you can get a big twin for just about the same.

Here is one somebody tried hard to ruin
And the Dealer is asking 12k
For a 2020. It’s sad that some fool will pay .

Well apparently it’s sold and deleted from inventory .🙃

Used private market is the way to go. The BO is not a touring bike so there are a plenty with low miles.
I've seen twinkie versions for as low as $7500 and M*'s for as low as $12-13k.
I do agree with you that it is one of the best lookers in the new lineup. Bright colors and chrome.
The green really pops. The Heritage is available in that green with chrome but those are the only two besides the Street Glide and Road Glide. Everything else is kinda drab unless you go for the CVO's.
The Fatboy still has chrome but the paint choices are a bit lame.

Touring is BS. Not touring of itself. But the idea of a touring bike specific market is nonsense.you can tour on any bike. And I say this as the owner of 2 bikes that may have invented the genre.
BMW /2 and HD FLH shovelhead.

True though BOs won’t see the mileage a road glide may see. But I don’t think I have seen many used on the market. I can’t even remember one .
But I think if I was in that market it would bcz I could afford it . And thusly want a new one with full extended warranty and service agreements.

Yup, a guy can tour on anything as well as a guy can sit on any chair.
If I’m going to be spending days in the saddle I want a comfortable seat and ergonomics.
If I’m going to spend time watching a movie I would rather do it in a cushioned recliner instead of a wooden straight back chair.

Oldiron tours on a bike that would have me at the chiropractor after his rides but he enjoys it.

I understand your distaste for baggers, except for the over the top Victory Cross Country, but with all your aches and pains I think you would prefer a bagger if you were to do any cross country riding over a T120.

BTW,  I’m just curious, how old were you when you did your last multi state ride and what did you do it on?

Multi state ride. Thsts interesting because New England itself is likely smaller than Mo.
I can smell the wood burning trying to think .
Several trips to Ma. Latest on my hinkley Bonnie. So perhaps 3 years ago . My state and Laconia nh 10 years ago would make me 62. But my problem was arthritic hands. The superglide was comfy as I had floor boards put on it.
Had a police king about the same time . Very comfy except I had trouble getting my leg over it . Banging my foot on saddle bags I hated. So that bike went I got rid of .
A couple of years ago I had another fatboy . Nice good looking , but I could any longer push the bike around with the fat front stock tire.
My point here is comfortable encompasses a wide concern besides your ass. Comfort in ownership should be a catagory .

For the record the victory I liked the looks of . I font believe I said I wanted one to ride. If I came off that way I apologize .

Regardless , droning on mile after mile bores me.
The more “comfy” the more boring .
I get more satisfaction ripping thru the gears than riding endless miles. I always did. Even back when I was younger and rode what is now called touring.
It’s just an excuse for the moto industry to squeeze more money out of enthusiasts. Heck , the guy from zen and the art of moto rode a Honda 350. And I believe Ruth his kid passenger.
I just don’t find  today’s touring on a cushy barge interesting when a Cadillac provides a better experience.
Hell, I rode a Honda 400f to the top
Of mt Washington. Serious wind challenge on a small bike.
Scary but fun .
I did deals  with Doyle twice on sportster . By buddy went last year on a road king and thought it was wonderful .
I couldn’t don’t on a bagger. It woukd just plain suck gir me. The sportster was a challenge . One had to concentrate powering out of curves. Etc.
I prefer sting like a bee over floating butterflies.
That’s about all I can tell you

Hey! Ya know what u said about watching a movie makes sense in a way . When one watches a movie one is a passive participant. Motorcycling is the exact opposite, requiring active participation in the extreme. Right? No pain no gain . lol. Perhaps. In various degrees.
What would be more interesting? 1000 miles of Baja or 1000miles of interstate 80?

A buddy of mine often uses the term
To Each There Own . Which I guess is a true axiom.but I consider it kind of a cop out.

Anyway , Fat2, you did mention a wooden chair. So you have that in common with Elvis Presley whom sang of you can’t hind a partner use a wooden chair. . lol. He didn’t say use a sofa . Elvis rode and rocked!
Myself i always prefers a bar stool over the booths. Still do . When I can walk.
Anyway I need to prepare for the coming Peace and Prosperity!

Yes and no. Sometimes riding is somewhat passive, cruising the highway, tune box cranking out Skynyrds “The Breeze” watching the sun popping up over a mountain or diving into the earth and sometimes it’s a white knuckle back road blast with limestone walls or forest flashing by with full concentration on the next curve coming up.
Both are equally pleasant. Just depends on the mood of the day and the steed of choice.

To each their own is a great axiom. It would be a boring ride on this rock if we all sang the same tune.

If I’m solo I prefer the bar stool. I enjoy a good bar burger and a cold one for lunch.
If the wife is with me are with the folks we do a booth. Easier to talk face to face. A lot of lip reading used in noisy restaurants.

I’ve rocked in a wooden chair and a sofa. I prefer the sofa. I’m sure you understand why.

I hope you enjoy your journey for peace and prosperity. It would be nice if all took that journey.
Of course the news networks would hate it. Chaos sells.

Myself? It’s a peaceful day. Snow is falling, dog is snuggling up to me on the couch and Bob Seeger is spinning on the turntable. I’m not sure there is anything more peaceful than this.

Re: Hardley Ableson

not to disagree with you. bcz it doesn't much matter anyway.
when riding becomes passive I don't ride. same with life. getting old can make feel passive in many ways, and I don't like it. never have. I can be passive when I am dead. that doesnt mean not peaceful. zen most certainly has its place.
but back to motorcycle riding passive to me invites death.
one can never let their guard down.  I am not championing crazy aggressive riding . but I am talking about control.
I am totally not into radios on bikes. I got more music in my head than I need to deal with. it's a distraction.
the motor is my music. that's why I shun ebikes. that's why shovelheads sound better to me than Milwaukee 8's. go start your bsa and let the iron barrels play skynard for u.
you don't have to agree with me, I am just trying to answer your question of when was the last time I rode in touring mode. the answer is guess I haven't in some time. I have no desire to.
the last real time was, when was the 100th anniversary of sturgis? a bunch of us were going to ride out there so I bought a low mileage FLHS for the trip. somehow in a ball game I broke my ankle and ended up in a cast up past mid thigh. I got as far as western Pa before turning around and heading back to hamden Ct. now I had no plan to ride the whole way like that, but another guy was going home anyway because of work commits. so we rode back. months later I got rear ended on that bike. so I sold it. but that was the last time I really thought about "touring" out side of a 5 or 6 hour ride in new England.
I am glad for my experiences. my 1980 ride to strurgis was unbelievable. but I don't mis doing that again. lol.
 peace and hopefully prosperity.
to all! including you my cycle vision  brother.
keep keeping Harley in business. you never know maybe they will build something  i will like again some day.
