I did some web searches and not finding any Speed 400’s used.
Most are running around $4500-$5500 OTD. There is the one in Indy for $4100. It’s considered used but has 6 miles on it and I saw one in Viva Lost Wages for $3,995.00. I bet the one in Indy could be picked up cheaper. They didn’t pay for it and it’s cold outside. . You meet some of the best folks behind bars. |

Agreed.
Not a bad looking bike , however it’s a cruiser wannabe . Not like the classic which is a RE original . Corbin makes a seat for RE’s But true dat. Great garage art. Which means more to me than many people I guess. I wouldn’t want to get it dirty Anyway. The dealers don’t stock many. “We can order one for you” lol. When I was offered the Luzon dealer area in the Philippines I would have had to buy a certain number of bikes outright. A former dealer in Ct said he had to buy them upfront too. So I am guessing dealers buy a bunch of them . But when they sell out they don’t buy a bunch more. This means stores that became dealers in 2023 have several “23 leftovers , more than newer models

And fwiw it’s hard to find a classic .
A couple of dealers had one. But not in the color combo I wanted to see. One did have a halcyon black Which is not bad. If I was actually Going to buy one at this time I would check it out . I hardly ever see a used one for sale. Strange as with four dealers in Ct that at one find had a lot in stock , no longer do. So where are they ? I may get into collecting sportsters as the prices are rock bottom as of late. I would be interested in the barest of barebones models. Despite FloatRhats law of big twins, whenever I get rid of an XL I regret it and buy another . Then repeat. Again and again . It’s a sickness. Prices have been very low this winter. But once I unload some projects I will be looking for clean unmolested xl. Plain mags , hummer tank . 1200 kit ok if the installer has a good reference. 85-03. Maybe a newer one could be considered but it would have to be quite special . Like a 72 or the orange one we have talked about b4

Here’s a good hands on for the speed 400.
https://youtu.be/1ZT3fmyQQSY?si=JK3NAhaBJyrlSr36 It really looks like a fun bike that won’t break the bank. . You meet some of the best folks behind bars. |
Of course that depends on your bank.
No doubt they are great bikes I wish I liked ther looks more tha I go. I didn’t like that ass in the air rear treatment. Even with mono shock I wish got a lower and real looking rear fender. I don’t like tank seams. I don’t like the way the tank fits at a weird angle. Lowerin the back would help it. The graphics are lame skinny jeans stuff. I do like the x better but the seat hight is even higher. I have trouble betting my leg over that back fender It doesn’t really go much faster than a Honda trail . Heck ? I may give up and go can am spider

Unfortunate my Honda /triumph dealer doesn’t have a Honda trail in stock
And I can’t afford a spyder w/o selling down some bikes. I am not ready to part with yet.

Sounds like a step through would be a good fit for you, Keith. All bikes except hardtails or going to be an issue for you IMO. Sucks when the body won't let the spirit run free. I feel for you buddy.
Have you looked into the Burgman? They can be picked up used for around $2500 around these parts. Yes, its ugly but they go. Easily 90 mph. I know someone that toured on one with the big tours. Very comfortable, reliable and nimble. If you can't get over the tupperware look rip it of and go for the Mad Max look. There was one running around St. Louis that looked pretty cool. . Thanks for the suggestion
But no. Ripping off the plastic is certainly an idea. But I have enuff stuff to do. I will wait and see how this back nerve burn works out this spring but it won’t be a Bergman 🚫ugly bikes = hacksaw

Back nerve burn? Is this radiofrequency ablation?
. You meet some of the best folks behind bars. |
Might be at that. I would have to check. But it involves a couple of needle explorations first.

I’m heading to pain management next week because of disc degeneration in L5-S1 so I’m curious of what others have been doing.
I tried the chiropractor thing but most of what he needs to do is out of pocket to the tune of a really nice bike so I am trying another route that insurance does cover. I guess riding hardtails and lifting heavy glass has finally caught up. . You meet some of the best folks behind bars. |
Well I see.
Well I had a disk fused some time back. But the cause is mostly just getting old. The bsa wasn’t bad with the coil springs. My indian was rough since the plungers didn’t plunge. I can’t say I blame them My insurance covers cpractors But my current bone guy doesn’t like them Myself I hate scheduling all these docs I have now. So the surgeon say my back is wasted . Operation would be 10 hours over 2 days, couple weeks in the hospital, months in a rehab joint and a year to recover with no guarantee of success. Pain wise. It seems I don’t have much left for discs and my spine is twisted So I go to the pain management doc . Injections help but don’t last . My hips are brutal at the moment, back is bad , knees don’t work . Neck pain comes and goes and my hands often cramp . PT didn’t help my back . So this nerve burn I will try. I have one bathroom on a second floor. It’s brutal I think my mattress is shot but my wife likes it . So god bless her 50yo back compared to my 73yo one. I would replace it today despite her but I am trying to put together buying a Corbin seat for the /2 with limited funds.

Actually my original back surgery was emergency due to the fact my spinal cord was was at serious risk
So that fixed that. I took my daughter to the Florida panhandle to play for team down there and my back was brutal . When I got back I went right into surgery .it fixed the issue but pain I had in a different spot continued into what I have today.

Yeah, burning the nerves so pain is no longer felt sounds like the right thing to do for you. Back surgeries are 50/50. Either it works or it doesn’t. Sometimes worse.

A friend of mine his dad was crippled by back surgery
Looked up My appt. It just says assisted needle exploration . I think she does two of those . Then the burn it or perhaps whstever it was you called it . If it can get me 2 or 3 years than I can get out of this one bathroom upstairs house . Riding around here would get me killed eventually . Bern here since “84 but it’s a changed world. My friends in this neighborhood are mostly all dead.
