The last Alien

Lots of discussions on why rider X can't / won't pass MM recently....and it dawned on me after listening to some podcasts.

MM is from the "Alien Era" where the likes of Rossi, Pedrosa, Lorenzo, and Stoner (even though he didn't race MM directly). These guys had talent, good strategy, and big balls on the track. There were so many good battles between them, some still controversial to this day!

With MM as the last of this breed, knowing the ins and outs of these tracks and strategies to attack or defend. This is apparent when MM says he wasn't the fastest but he knew precisely where to put his bike for defense lap after lap after lap. Bez may be from VR46 academy, but he is no Rossi.

Kind of funny if you think about it: Rossi started out with so so competition culminating into more difficulty at his career end. MM, on the other hand, had to fight against arguably the best riders in MotoGP  history to start his run, and now is on a less challenging grid. So of course, it looks like sometimes he's not getting challenged (he isn't), though it isn't for the sake of trying.

I was gonna put up something on this.
Glad FF did.

Myself, I don’t think it has much to do with
having rode the smoker’s, or with guys that did.  Or the state of the bikes. Or the rules.

Thing is, I believe we are watching one of the greatest riders in history.

A kind of guy that comes down the pike every decade or so.

The intelligence. The reflex’s. The eyesight.
The lack of fear. All mixed with a heavy dose of common sense and the ability to think outside the box.

There will be others like him.

But, believe it.  We are watching one of the greatest.

I believe racing against Rossi helped him hone his skills.
Rossi was also one of the greats. Beating him was a huge feather in his helmet.

I thought Martin was going to be one of the greats as well but because of his greed and anger I think he will be a flash in the pan.
The only thing that might change that is if he can get a ride in 2027 on the smaller Honda. I don’t see a 2026 Honda beating even a 2025 Honda.
But even then he will not be able to surpass MM.
2027 will be an interesting year.

Really good points ^.

In my own displeasure at watching the MM, AM one-two finishes, I have been grumbling about AM not racing hard enough against his brother, that if Alex would ‘take a risk’ and stuff it up the inside, he could disrupt Marc’s line and take the point.

But watching a recent race where Alex did get to lead reset my thinking.

How can Alex think about passing Marc when he can’t even keep him behind.

Marc Marquez has gone through some kind of crucible heat treatment. Alien steel.
