Tire changing

m143
I've had this 3 lever set for a long time.
They work slick.
However this 12 inch knobby took almost everything the kid and I had to get it off the rim so we could change a tube.
This is the first time I thought 20 bucks to a professional would be worth it.
I ain't lookin' forward to putting the bugger back together. My luck I'm going to pinch the new tube.
Anyone else change their own?

I do on steel rims.
But, after gouging the front aluminum rim on my black Honda, even though I was super careful, I’m thinkin, why?

That is a nice set of irons.
I’ve got a pair a bit smaller.
Often wondered if anyone made a set super long, like 24 to 30 inches long.

The added leverage would have to help.

3 levers is a big help.
Longer has to be a little easier with the extra leverage.
This 12 inch knobby was difficult to get the far side down into the center well. Smaller wheels are tough, but this one was a bear.
There is a few options for tire changing stands, Rabiconda looks like a great set up. But you could have a bike shop do quite a few tires for the price of one of those. And then balancing is another cost to consider.
The kid learned a few cus words doing this tire.

Ya. Don’t even try the riding lawnmower any more.

I dunno.  Seems the last few times I paid it wasn’t 20, more like 50.

Dj fike had a great machine for that . But he changed tyres  a lot . Enabled him to get great deals on tires.
Me? Msybe in a small bike which a flat where I really needed to , but normally I would sell the bike if it was a modern one or have the tires mounted when putcgsrfd new. On bmw I had the bikes in for service
I  buy new tyres and have them mounted along with service .
I won’t do 16”
HD wheels. I might do 21”
Case by case situation .

I do mine. Used 12” spoons for years until I found some 24” levers on an Harbor freight ad. I bought two. Big help.

A couple years ago or so I saw a Cycle Hill by Nomar motorcycle tire changer on marketplace for a hundred bucks about 70 miles away and nabbed it up.
They were $300 at the time. I think they are $400 now.
It’s well worth it if you do a lot of tires. Especially the older we get.
There are cheaper knock offs but Nomars are American made.

I bolt it to the floor when I need to use it. When done I unscrew it and store it in the corner out of the way.
It does 4” to 21” tires.
It still takes some muscle but it’s easier and I’m not on the floor.

Here’s a decent video of it in use. Starts after 1 minute.

thats what doyle had, but in red. I was thunking about offering Sheryl something for his, but how the heck was she going to pack it for shipping? and as you mentioned, I am not going to bolt and unbolt it and I don't have room really for it anyway otherwise. I no longer do enuff types to matter. I figure if I don't HAVE ENUFF MONEY to get them done then I don't have snuff money to keep the bike.

its cool that machine. I do say. but I drop my wheels and go up to my kids  school and watch her game.
maybe pick them up on the way back if possible. actually this
is interesting. idk where I would go for independent tire dealer these days.
