New Dirt Bikes

m143
Went to Libby's a multiline motorcycle shop for a switch for my Scrambler.
My grandson is hot for a YZ125 so we checked out the just released Yamaha dirt bikes.
Show room bikes are so attractive.

New Triumphs are pretty slick.

Nice paint on this Bonnieville

Re: New Dirt Bikes

I have always really disliked 125s.
They are just so peaky.
Like a light switch, off, or wide open.

That being said, it’s the perfect thing for a guy growing out of mini bike world.

I never understood how they got away with killing them by
bringing out the 250 4strokes.
I mean, it’s just not wise, imho, for a kid to jump from an 85cc mini bike to a 250f.

Not to say there arent small young guys that can get on a 500cc 2 stroke at 12 years old.
But come on, that’s not really normal, or wise.

Anyway, they did it.

And they got their way.

There are but 2 manufacturers still out there making 125cc
motocrossers.   Yes, there are a few in Europe, Beta, Gasgas, Fantic, I dunno, like I said I don’t care or follow them.

But of the 2, let’s say mainstream 125s,
The Yamaha gets my vote as the best bike for a 12 year old. The KTM, a close 2nd.
So close if a guy could win on one, he could win on the other. Rider ability and physical condition would tip that scale.

Ya, the 125yz, solid choice.

And ya, that Blue Bonniville, beautiful.

Probably going to buy a used YZ from a friend, 2018 good shape 4k.
A new one is $9200.00 out the door.
The kid is set on a two stroke and I don't blame him. He's riding a TTR 125 now.
His little brother is on a CRF110 Honda but beginning to use the TTR with a clutch so we need another bike for the older kid.
The boys skills are getting pretty good. I enjoy this shit more than they do.

i dont like the paint on the bonnie at all. and the badge sux. it doesnt match the curves of the tank. or the paint fade or both. the top of the badge should be longer than the bottom metal "stripe" . actually i dont care for any of triumphs graphics these days.

as to dedicated dirt bikes i have no idea. i liked 175 dual purpose bikes on old logging roads or power lines. usually 4 stroke. but i did have a kaw 175 that i really liked. 2 stroke super fast but yet would tractor  along  almost at idle and man would throw some mud. i would get another if one popped up. big ass knob on the back. friend of mine on a duck single really dug in after a couple days of rain.

i know what you mean about watching the kids do stuff well
. about the only benefit of getting old. god bless them

Picked the kids YZ up today. He's not around 'till Monday so he'll be surprised.
Getting a new bike is a thrill that will never grow old.

Congrats!

Looks low hours.
Pegs still sharp.
No boot scuffing on the cases, frame or swingarm.
I believe that’s an original rear sprocket also.

Ya. Nice bike👍

Thanks Grado,
Came with original fuel tank and a set of very usable knobbies.
The guy I bought it from likes the Trials tires in the woods around here.
I'll have some riding pics in a few days.

A rear trials is the hot set-up.
Enduro compititions actually banned the use of them because they hook up so well.

He’s gonna have a blast with that thing🙂

Very awesome Walt. Great choice on the YZ.  The lad is going to have a blast as well as you will watching them hone their skills.
What a life.

Thanks Kirk!
We're making the best of it that we can.
Both boys are riding real  well.
My skills are improving as I try to keep up.
It's been a lot of fun this summer.

The kid is still on the TTR125. Some school issues to work through before he gets the new bike. No matter this bike serves him well.

I call it YZ Points.
Being 13 years old can be a challenge in good times.
Anyway the kids are doing alright. We just did parent teacher conferences, and the Teachers noticed a positive shift in behavior. I told him that I hope he "keeps it up" 'cuz I want the new bike as much as he does.
He climbs like a champ.

That’s great. The boys are coming from a rough situation that could lead a couple different paths. They are blessed to have some great g-parents to lead them down the correct one.
