I’m ticked MG is $150 out-of-pocket on this site 🙇‍♂️

But I wouldn’t want to spend any more, even to post better/larger pics or even more than the three-second videos we now get to embed.

$150 a year is nothing for what I get out of this place.

I mean, my monthly phone bill is about the same.  
I take the better half out to dinner, with a few drinks, (bloody Mary’s, doubles, Chesapeake style, 2 of them life is great), maybe 2 times a month.  

No, to me, the friends here, well, well worth it.  

This place, for those interested, is hosted
on a place like HostGator, GoDaddy, BlueSea, there’s a ton of them.  

The deal we have, is we get 4 pages.
We are only using 2 of them.
The front page, the one with my 750 looking out over the snow, and the Forum page, is the 2nd page.

We could add another complete Forum, hell, 2 of them if we want.  Or a classified page. Or anything really.  As long as it’s already available from some other site.  
I think the place that hosts us offers Weebly as a forum.
Look it up.  Weebly. They have a few other pages that we could have for free. SMF is another one.  Simple Machines Forum. We could link page 3 to those guys.

Thing is, this forum, this place is different because it was created, the software that is, by a guy named Franklin.
Franklin is a genius.  And a rebel. An older guy, retired now. He created the software we run on as  alternative to Apple, Google, Linux.
He just didn’t like answering to someone else on what he wanted to say.

Very cool imho.  

Thing is, he’s getting up there, got married, and is settling
back into life as most know it.  
He used to have a big building, employees, all the trappings of “success”.
I think he had 11 servers, with who knows how many people running their web sites off them.
Well, he kind of said after awhile the hell with this.
He closed most of the websites that wernt being used,
or were really crazy (not going to go there. Let’s just say most anything went), and put the rest on 1 server.  
Which he runs out of a spare room in his house.  
Just because he still wants a place to post without anyone censoring or shutting him down.

Luckily, he took us with him.
If you notice, when you bring us up in a search, the number 339 is in the address.
We are the 339th website on his server.

Which brings us to the realization that if Franklin has a bad day, or his house burns down, or his wife goes ballistic and takes a baseball bat to the server, we lose the forums page.

Another big thing I think about, I mean, I think we have a lot of good stuff here.

I at least need to get a clean,  new laptop, dedicated to this place, Cyclevisor.com.  Then throw a flash drive in it and download the whole form.
At least then all of us, and the things we’ve put up, can still be had in the event of, well, whatever.

I’ll look into that next week.

This place needs upgrade for sure.  
I’ve looked around.  
It’s just so fucking confusing,
it’s hard not to get sucked into spending a ton of money,
I don’t write script, data (read pics), takes a ton of storage, they all talk in computer language which quite frankly, have no interest in.

It’s about $300 to start that one.
A guy could hit $600 a year easy to maintain that one.
More if you want extra stuff, additional storage, security, support.
All that it’s over a grand a year.

That’s almost $100 a month.
This place is free, it’s hosted by another site that holds the name, license and stuff you need to get online.
That costs us about $150 a year.

I don’t know, the saying “go big or go home” has come to mind a few times.  

Thoughts anyone?

Well I started this thread on HD new to be released softails. So I guess it was a bit of an unfortunate prophecy
when I theoretically asked why bother?

Personally I don’t care what any of you decide to do with this forum .
I think you all should realize that it’s a bit inbred.
We don’t attract new members .
That’s what happened to gigibikes.
And they had a lot more members than we do here.
Even if half of them were moderators.
But inbred became dead .

Personally I don’t care much about all the racing yiu guys get hard over . I am glad you enjoy it and this site gives you the opportunity to share your interests .
My frustration is what it is. I just can’t upload what seems to have become a prevailing type of imagery these days.
That's my problem not anyone else’s.
There often times I don’t post things I feel could be interesting because I can’t readily post the backup that would make the thread interesting.
Maybe it’s me , maybe the site is antiquated .
Idk .
But again , that wasn’t the main idea of this thread .

Honestly I think the forum is fine. I've been able to post pics, vids, etc. I've just recently encountered the issue with posting from my iphone. It started at the first of the year. Must be something on my end. I'm just not tech enough to figure it out. I tried the reboot of my phone to no success. I need a teen in the house.

I would only switch if it lightens the load of running the show. This should be enjoyable, not burdensome.
I know I couldn't have started this.
If you wanted to switch to make it profitable I'd follow.

I understand completely about the teen on the house . My 19yo just went back to college.
I am lost .

How do u post all these images?
Unless it’s jpg they won’t post here. Even if I have them in my phone photo album .
Almost all web mail images like from oem and moto news letters are no longer what this forum will post
If it’s me I would love to fix it .
If it’s the forum , well, I will post more on my Facebook group . Which at least you have access to , thankfully .
Although idk what face book will post either now that I think of it

I agree with all of this.

But I also like to shoot Bullseye pistol that nobody but old guys care about. But every week we have plenty of shooters to have a match.

And Trials motorcycle riding, another sport that doesn't attract new riders, but still is an active community  that really doesn't care if anybody else gets it.

I'd also would follow this site.

Oil iron, Walt, Fat2, Hacksaw, all have valid concerns.
This place came about as a liferaft to the hardcore guys from the old CW forums.
That’s it.

Unless something drastic happens, I’m thinking keep it business as usual.

And Walt, believe it or not, I’m thinking a vintage trials bike would be cool.  A 125 cota, maybe  Tl 125. Something like that.  Get out in the woods.  Not get killed. Ride a bit.
I think there’s a guy running a vintage trials series around here.  No stopping, no bouncing the front end, forward motion only.  

Yeah. That might be next for this guy.

I am not interested in trials at all. I don’t consider it riding.
