The Turn and Burn.

Last weekend the bride and I hopped in the F150 and headed North for 2,170 mile round trip to meet Hacksaw at his home in CT to purchase his beautiful and well kept 2013 Triumph T100.

We left Friday morning around 8:00 am CT. Google maps pointed to highway 70 east to NY as the fastest route. Man I hate that highway but we needed to get there and back ASAP.
After 13 hours my eyeballs were cooked and we stopped in Harrisburg PA for a shot of NyQuil and some zzz. Next morning a shower, a muffin in a bag and COFFEE. On our way.
Met Hacksaw and clan around 1:00 pm ET Saturday.

Last time I saw Hacksaw was a late night in October 2020 when my Pop and I drove up for the Beezer so it was a blessing to see him again.
This time I got to meet his son, who was very helpfu in loading up the bike and accessories and his bride. Great people there.

When he uncovered the Triumph I think I could hear a choir of angels sing, “aawwee!” in fear and wonderment.
The bike is stunning. He has tastefully modified it with British Customs Predator slip ons that give the 270 degree crank a harmonious growl of legions that say in a voice of demons “Let’s eat tarmac!”

The stock bars were replaced with a set of Thruxton bars with a 2” riser and end bar mirrors that give the bike a strong stance.
I thought the low bars would have to be swapped due to back issues but I’m going to give these a much long trial before deciding on the swap. I’d hate to ruin such a great looking setup. The docs have given me meds that may delete the pain.

After the bike was loaded he showed me a couple projects he has going on. Another beezer he was getting ready to take to Brit Jam to put a for sale sign on and a nice 79 FXE that I would not mind making another trip back for if allowed.

Unfortunately time wouldn’t allow much for visiting. He had to get ready for Brit Jam and I had a dialysis machine to get back to Sunday night so we had to say our goodbyes and beat foot it west back to the Midwest.
I wish I had time to swing by Walt’s just to say hello but time didn’t allow.

Googled map home and this time highway 80 through PA was the quickest route, and no tolls. Gave me a smile.
80 is a much better and beautiful drive than 70.

We made it has far as DuBois PA before calling it quits for the night. Sunday morning was a repeat of Saturday morning of shower, muffin in a bag and COFFEE. How would we live without coffee?
At Akron we had to drop back down to the dreaded highway 70 into St. Louis to 44. Backed into the driveway at 8:30 pm just in time to get the vampire machine cranked up and ready.

A great, to quickly over, trip to bring home a great new toy.

Obligatory photo of the bike heading to its new home and two long distance friends met through the world of motorcycles.

The bike at its new home in the blistering sunshine of east central Missouri.

Ride reports to follow once we get out of this heat advisory of real feel of 105 degrees. It’s the kind of heat and humidity that we wear it.

How many road hours did it take you to get here.
I tried to post a picture of the “BSA”
But this forum didn’t like the picture I took at Brit jam . I will try on a more specific thread .
Anyway , all the good stuff back at you.
Love you , Brother. You amaze the shit out of me.

Thanks Hack. The respect is more than mutual.
I hope at 73 I’m still able to enjoy bikes in the same form as yourself.

The total drive time was a little over 36 hours according to the trip timer thingie in the truck.

Did you sell the BSA at Brit Jam?

Like a 10 month old baby taking it's first steps I did a little tip toeing on a short 35 or so mile loop after work.
First thing I noticed, the brain bucket won't work. It becomes a parachute trying to pull me head of to go skipping off into the ditch
Anything over 35 the wind noise drowns out the wonderous sound of the two trumpets playing a sound that compares with Satchmo (mmm a possible name for the Trumpet). I've been spoiled riding behind windshields. The wind also pushes up my glasses and lets wind and debris in the eyeballs

This morning I put on the 3/4 greenie helmet and the ride in to work was much better. Glasses held in place, helmet stayed in place and I could hear the pipes playing their crisp growl. Sounded so good I missed my turn into work and got a little lost on the way in.
I felt a little more comfortable taking turns without the slow paddle through.

Perfect day to sneak out early and take the long way home to find the groove of the bike.

Thanks Hack.

Sorry about the helmet thing.  I don’t wear them as a rule since I love the wind blowing thru my face and hair.
Pit the fairing on if u think it might help.
I have had windshields a bat wings .
When I didn’t have a car in winter bat wings were mandatory .
Otherwise windshields is like driving a convertible without the extra stability of 2 more wheels.
Plus they keep all the engine tinkling especially with a low gas level driving me nuts.

No need to be sorry. It’s my choice to wear one.
Missouri changed to a no helmet state a couple years back.
When just putting around I don’t necessarily wear one but after my last run in with a farmer and his UTV out in the sticks I started wearing one more often if i know I’m going to be riding risky.
To be honest i kinda like the 3/4 helmet because it keeps the air wind noise down. I don’t care for ear plugs much. They start to give me ear and headaches but I don’t want to loose any more hearing than I already have so the 3/4 works.

I partly wear one because I let my hair grow out and getting the tangled mess straightened out is a pita.
I’m thinking about cutting it off again.

If I’m running a lot of highway the windshield is a blessing. It takes pressure off the neck. Riding all day at 60-80 mph I get a severe nerve pinch below my neck and in between the shoulders. When I was younger it was never an issue.

I’ve been thinking about the little fairing but I really don’t want to mess with the looks of the bike. You set it up tastefully.

By the way, a dude asked me about the mirrors. Do you remember where they came from?
