Turns out the guy can’t show me any paperwork or even send me a picture of the vin.
Fucking scammer.

And now my kids tuition went up several grand. Ya can’t win for trying sometimes.

So fat2, if you can get me a picture of that buddy of yours sporty , I haven’t listed my triumph on the open marketplace as of yet. I would like to see it
If possible b4 I go any further
Sorry Hack. I just saw this post. I’ll get with him and first ask him if he will take $1500. If he is interested I’ll get some pics and send them to you via text.
I got to be honest, around these parts the bike is worth more than what you are willing to pay. Post 04 sporties go for more than early flubber mount sportsters.
I’ll get back to you

Man Grado, sounds like you’re having a battle in your hands just to get a bike legal.
When I’m in your case I just grab a plate off one of my other bikes and ride.
In Missouri we have to pay 10% of the purchase price in sales tax.
I’ve owned a lot of bikes that I’ve never titled. I just ask the seller not to date the title at purchase. When I’m through with it and sell it the title goes to the new buyer with the last owners name on it. And no date.
If I decide the bike is a keeper I’ll title it. And pay the stinking taxes.
I’ve yet to title Keith’s beezer.

Wow.
Well I stopped swapping plates after I got caught and lost my license for a year. Just tell them ya paid 100 bucks.
As to your friends bike, nobody around here is going to pay much for an 883 with over 50k miles on it
I guy I was talking to just sold a a 1200. One if those 1200s models Harley made with dual plugged heads an a slightly bump in compression and cam
Now thus had a thunderheader
On it that must go for well over a grand new.
He had it for sale for several weeks. But I passed on it brcsuse it had 35k on it. I don’t know what he sold it for . He was asking a little over 3 grand. Which was somewhat reasonable . But the mileage scared  me off .
Me , I have certain things I am looking for . Price depending.
How much do u think it costs to have a 1200 kit installed. !
You can buy low ish miles stock 883’s pre 2004not played with for less than 3 k . Maybe a cherry a decent 1200 one for 4+
So say buy your friends for 2k and have the 1200 kit installed and it’s going to be another grand making it
A $3000 bike with still 50k miles on the rest of it.
That’s my thinking. So 1500 if I liked it despite the mileage

Well the cops said sure.  Followed me a few blocks to the bike, looked at the vin, and filled it out.

The one cop told me, and I know this from the hvac business, in today’s world an O on a legal document or equipment sticker is an O.  A zero is an 0 with a line across it diagonally.

Pennsylvania, doesn’t do that.  At least they didn’t 7 years ago.  On the bike it had the line diagonal cross on all the Os, making them all zeros. The title did not.

Anyway, another trip to the DMV and im all legal.

Go ahead, pull me over.

That’s great Grady. Very cool of the cops to take the time to do this for you. Nice and easy.

We have to take stuff like this to the state highway patrol on a trailer. Missouri sucks for licensing a vehicle at first purchase.  Once it’s legal it can be renewed online every year as long as it’s less than 10 years old and has less than 150k miles.
They just want the $, really.

Is that normal for CT? You loose your driving license for having incorrect plates?
Seems pretty stiff.

Dang, that’s rough. Here it’s just a fine as long as you have proof of insurance.
Cops don’t usually pull bikes over unless they are doing something stupid like blasting through residential neighborhoods, wheeling or excessive speeding.
I’ve only been pulled over a few times and most times they let me go with a warning.

Re: Thoughts of selling out.

It was a car . And is was b4 insurance was mandatory .
Odd set if circumstances.
I pulled into a driveway to go onto a coffee shop . Cops went by and saw me pull in . After a while I left . So I drove around the driveway that led around the building next door. Which was a gun shop . When I came out the cops happened to come by at that time and thought I was behind the gun shop all that time. I don’t even remember the actual penalty . But the put a bond on my license which for  a year I couldn’t afford .
So that’s when I started riding motorcycles
Easier to avoid police.

That’s the most unique story I’ve ever heard that got someone to ride motorcycles.
Interested in the addendum.

At the moment I have to go get my son to help me get rid of this ground hog . I finally caught up with it and shot it. It ate all my beautiful lettuce  so I still feel a bit bad about it. I pumped maybe ten bb’s into it untill I ran out . And it was still twitching. But I can’t pick it up it’s huge! And it’s a bloody mess.
Damn
