Given Ratana some love and fresh air.

I’ve only done one valve adjustment in my life that I can remember, unless you consider push rod adjustments on my ironhead. It was on the Concourse. I was taken back by how it effects throttle response on that inline 4.
I think it took me longer to get all the Tupperware off and on than the adjustment did.

Can you tell me what an APE Racing manual cam tensioner is and what it does?

I don’t think you ever acknowledge when you present cognitive dissonance as cant.
It’s always your way, on every new post, whatever version is the current version.
There’s never a discussion - only some excuse for your vagaries.
But that’s never-the-mind, because this won’t matter either.

It occurred to me on the ride north that what BMW has that HD doesn’t, is an automaker owner as a money/tech pipeline.

HD will do ‘better’ in markets and sales when a car maker like Ford buys it, and woe, won’t that be a sad/good day. HD will live, but not as a free beast.

Ratana shed its Tupperware before I got it.
Man, that would be worse.
As it is, everything comes off the block and above it.
And I suck at the feel of tightening the locknuts.

The automatic cam tensioners get slack over time and the chains can slop-rattle to death.

I hope this last ride before the tension comes gets survived.

I don’t agree with that either
AMF was huge and it bowling  alleys , Motorhomes, golf carts and basketballs. Harely kept them alive. I would have to see how much the motorwerks is in the red  and picked up by the auto division. My guess is none. But it is a guess.
Harley made plenty of money earlier this century. But Covid hurt them and buying and losing millions on m v Augusta was a serious issue not related to sales. Financial Services made money.
Also a general downturn in cycles sales across tge board hurt. Harley shot itself in both feet . Myself a huge Harley booster in years passed , I no longer am .
For whatever  reason . BMW offers a sensible alternative. Thanks to their huge support of vintage BMW where Harley has failed. I don’t see cars having anything to do with that.

Is there anywzy to stay signed in here?

Keith,
Will your neighborhood BMW dealer work on a '60's, '70's & 80's Beemer?
I called the St. Louis dealer to see if they will work on my 79 R60. Nope.
Probably the same reason that HD won't work on shovelheads. The guys that were trained on them are dead or retired and parts are obsolete from MOCO.
HD only wants to sell HD Stamped parts.

Well your dealer sucks.
I bought my /2 from a bmw dealer . I had my 84 R65 serviced there . They have huge inventory of older bikes as well as BMW trained designated vintage techs.
Max BMW actually has three northeast dealers and they all do this. There are several well known dealers across the country that deal with vintage as well as the latest models
Look up Blue Moon BmW

Why would I lie? My dealer Actually bought out Vech whom was one of the leading vintage  BMW experts in the country if not the world.
Look up max BMW . I can’t get you the link because I don’t feel like signing in here again . It’s tedious.
Max has all the vintage cats on line u can order from .
And a very large selection of vintage bikes. For sale and service. They pride themselves on it.
The previous dealer had my friend now retired , he did work for max , but he built a /2 especially featured at one of the ny  javits center cycle world shows . Long with a big official BMW display van . This guy was a master bmw tech that even raced  Italian bikes at IOM .
This is legit stuff. Again, your area dealer sucks , to put it mildly.

Yup. There is not to many dealers in my area that don’t suck. They only want newer stuff crossing their thresholds.

This morning I have to take my ST in for another recall. Something about a plate that the shock attaches to has been cracking.
I’m taking it to where I bought it from, two hours south by slab. I’ll pass at least three dealers to go there. They actually bought the replacement parts ahead of time so I can wait for it.
The dealers around here make you drop it off and wait a few days to come pick it up.
I’m going to ask if they work on shovelheads just for fun.

There is one decent dealer in the area with two locations.
They sell triumps, Honda Yamaha. Family owned shop.
Smaller shop with a museum tacked on to the side. It’s a good place to visit.
People complain about the prices on their bikes but good service is worth paying for.
You’re usually talking to one of the family members when you’re talking bikes.
