Honda cb400f I had back in the 70’s.
Very cool bike. Beautiful headers on it .
It was an industrial work of art .
Steel eye candy .
Not like the crappy ninja thing hidden in plastic and graphics designed to distract the eye from its inherent f ugliness.

Still have mine, in all its beaten down under-glory.

The Ninja Four is speaking to a different era, and thank the effin gods we don't all have to live in the '50s and '60s forever.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R
launch ready: Return to the
golden age of 400s

my point is the golden age was long before the era that article is referring to.

Ah. There's the issue.
The Golden Age of Sporting four cylinder 400cc motorcycles was from the mid-'80s to the late '90s.

Kawasaki ZXR400

Honda VFR400

Yamaha FZR400

Suzuki GSX-R400

I am going to hate myself for saying this, but Harley-Davidson is starting to seem like an innovative company, and maybe the most relevant Big moto-manufacturer.

There, now I do hate myself for saying that since HD's dealer experience is getting worse as their tech gets more interesting - the last time I checked my local dealer had a $3000 mark-up in the sticker for every bike in the shop, just because.

Maybe 'Livewire' the spinoff company will be the best of both worlds?
There's a lot to bet against this position, but I like to think of the Livewire as the Company and the rest of HD as a legacy spinoff. And then I feel loss.

Ridiculous. They have one bike I would be interested in. Softail Standard . Msrp around 15k?
The old sportster is still available but way overpriced.
The rest is priced to high even without a dealer markup .
$30,000 plus baggers?
 Electric bikes suck .

The Softail standard would be a good blank canvas but right now they are running $17,5000-$18,000 OTD. A little pricey for a blank canvas.
Heck, the heritage classic is &26k+ out the door now. Prices have really soared like an Eagle as of late.

Nice photo.

The standards show up a couple of years old used at dealers   Now and then for around $14,000. Not that I would pay that  either at this time. I would love to try one.
I expect the market to collapse somewhat soon.
Rising interest rates and higher prices can’t maintain this market during a recession .
