In the late 70s, a guy named Jim Erickson,
for reasons no one knows, killed himself.

A few friends loaded up his 390 Husquvarna, hauled
it out to a place that they, but not many others knew.
They buried Jims bike to the axels on cement,
then scattered his ashes there.

The Husky Monument.

We heat with wood.
Young backs make light work of these chores.

Great chore for strength building to handle the trails bikes.
The log splitter is a bonus.

Brings back memories.
When I Wes a kid the house was wood heat.
My pop and his brothers would buy a dump truck full of trees, less the tops. Trees would get dumped and we would work together with his brothers and their kids would work together to cut the trees into stove sized logs.
The logs were split with one of those big spiral cones that was installed on the back axle and drilled into the logs to make stove sized logs.

It was hard work but it was enjoyable.

Those boys will look back on this in the same way one day.

Only took me 2 hours over 2 days to figure how to get that image into jpg and post it here using this phone .
Really not worth the effort .
This wood is from the trees that were trimmed and cut down . Some maple , birch and oak
It’s for outdoor fun fires.
I do not heat with wood any longer .
I am still burning wood from a couple years ago . This pile will go next year or 2. If it’s wood I burn it. Cut off project scraps , pallets , broken furniture , old fence , whstever .

I bought this little electric splitter. It’s slow but works well.
If I can post a gif I will.

Cutting trees and all that is fun in the hard work sense. But it’s a young man’s endeavor. Feels good to stack a nice pile. I am going to eventually put an electric starter back on my shovelhead . It’s the same difference as cutting trees. lol.

Good timing for that pile. That oak would smoke some of the best jerky.
What a novel idea. An electric splitter. I didn’t know they made one.
I sometimes get my wood the lazy way. Already chopped and for sale at unmanned roadside stands that use the honor system where you drop cash or check in a secure lock box and take all the wood out of a cubby.
Another way is at Ace hardware they sell cart loads for 20 bucks.

I mainly use it for the occasional fun fires and when I can find time to make some jerky.
I missed the fun fires this year because of the health problems.

While waiting for the Fido bite to heal in my right leg an infection in the left ankle and left knee popped up. It’s the same bacteria that I had in the left knee a couple times before. It laid me up in the hospital for a couple weeks then they wanted to put me in a rehab joint because I have a PICC line hanging out my neck that needs antibiotics flushed into every morning. The wife said she can handle it so they sent me home.

Once a week a home health comes by to check my blood work and see how I’m doing. Physical therapy comes by once a week to. Fridays I go to the Wound Care joint so they can treat the dog bite.
I’ve been working from home for a couple weeks but I’m ready to get back in the office.
I drove my car for the first time today for the first time since mid September. Felt good.
I hoping to be out of the chair by end of January, or sooner.

With the year winding down, I took a few minutes to look over all the pictures that were on my phone.

A kind of year in review.

Mid summer, 2025, North Central West Virginia, facing West, at Sunset.

Do do do, looking out my, front door.

Wow Kirk, I hope you get these issues behind you soon.
Cool story about the screw splitter, I've seen 'em but never used one.
Hydraulic is fast and easy. I still have some wood splitting hammers and wedges and once in a while if the wood is straight they come out.
