Caught a glimpse of this beautiful 1965 BMW
on its way to Daytona.  I think it’s an R500.

That would be R50/2
I had a 1955 R50. It wasnt actually designated as a /2 in that year but it was the same thing .
Currently my only registered bike is “67 R60/2
I agree it’s a beautiful bike.
No plate ? I see a sign I can’t quite make out. It says 1964
I think . Maybe it’s going to swap meet ?

This bike from what I understand belonged
to guy that passed last year.
He was a bit well off, and lived a full life, on his terms.

There is a large pile of very nice road gear in there also.

He was a long haul touring bloke.
Stretched it to 80 years old, died form what I heard on a mountain bike back in the woods.

The beemer was restored in ‘63/‘64.
He then entered it in various shows,
and rode a Goldwing mostly the rest of his life.

The bike on its way to Daytona as we speak, to be picked up by its new owner.  

And ya, I need to start taking notes in these situations.
I think I’ll remember everything, but you get to talking about stuff……….

The pic doesn’t do it justice, it’s striking to say the least.

Talked to those guys today.

That beemer is a 1958 R/50.
The guy bought it new, rode it for 4 years,
retired it, then had it completely restored.
Hasn’t been started since.

It looks like they offered a somewhat different, 2 up version. Big difference maybe the seat?

Keith I believe that’s a Yamaha emblem on the tank.  

I saw this one at a rest stop/park and drive where Rt 26 intersects with Rt 68 in Bruceton mills WV.
Lotta construction crews meet there.

What I noticed about this one was the functionality.
No friggin LED lights, bags or crazy paint.
He is running a nice set of Michelins tho.
He aint messing around.

If you notice, everything this guy has put on it is mostly to protect the bike if he lays it down.
Almost like he’s been there before.


Around here it’s mostly 2 tribes.

The orange and black, the metric cruisers.
And the young crotch rocketeers.

Not a lot in between.

20 miles down the road is WVU.
Some of those youngsters, let’s just say they ride at a pretty good pace.

Agreed it’s a tuning fork logo.
I see very few bikes out there these days
Including my own . Been trying to get up the nerve to ride. But nobody seems to be left riding her anyway. It’s tricky to go out on a 60’s bike and with bad knees and all , without a pal. It’s wicked hot anyway.

Went out last week with a few friends.

Only did about 100 miles.
I’m just starting to get used to an Italian bike.
Riding without thinking about it, just reacting,
takes time.

Gonna slip out once or twice this weeknd.
Even if it’s for just a few miles.  
Early in the morning, by myself.  
It can be a bit unsettling, lone riding, if you let your mind go there.

Kinda dig it that way anyway.
