Not a bad starting point . But with no real knowledge of the inside of the engine it’s chancey.   2500 sounds about right to me as is looks.

That shovel chopper was a good looking bike two years ago.

The Honda needs a sawzall taken to it.
When you got to have outriggers on your sissy bar its time for a flashing rd light on top for those rides near the airport.

Re: Craigslist Curiosities

I'm still coming to grips with the purchase of this 2006 R6 last Wednesday.

It's of the Gen that is least desirable, due to weak midrange.

It has to be ridden like a two-stroke.

But I'm thinking that's not a bad technique to learn.

I've been living off the fat mid-range of the Buell, and it's time I got a platform that has the handling covered. I did five trackdays last year (all of them offered new things to learn, including how to lowside a Buell at speed with little damage by using one's toe/knee/elbow) and everyone's advice was 'get an R6.' They seem to be a benchmark in performance, and an accepted platform for growth. It seems to be an adequate yardstick (meterstick!).

There are so few 2008/2009s ("The Good Years"), and the ones that come through the internet cost thousands more and don't come prepped for the track. Or, they're rat-bikes.

I paid $6K, and it has at least $3K in retail-priced Woodcraft equipment on it.

Plus, I got all the 50th Anniversary Edition bodywork, but the owners say it's somewhat sun-faded.

It starts.

It idles.

I rode it for just a bit in first.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm not sure about the black fork. A short internet short suggests it should be gold. Maybe it's a parts special? I've come across a few of those. But the frame and engine numbers do match the registration.

The buy was good. I've never done a Craigslist purchase, but it worked out. I'll tell you more later. It was interesting. I was extremely tired at that moment, from trying to fit the trip out and back, and the deal, into my normal time between shifts, and it really helped me get bowled over by a feeling of straight-up honesty. We'll see, eh? I still have registration and insurance to get done.

I would've written about those other trackday adventures, but between massive work and a continually deepening lack of energy, I just dragged my ass out of October and barely made it into February. I thought I'd have to quit working. I usually get by on 6-7 hours of sleep, but 10 wasn't even doing it. Felt like I was beaten with baseball bats all the time.

A friend suggested I look into Leaky Gut, which I thought would be a scam - my take on all those food fads - but dropping potatoes, tomatoes (no!), peppers (no again!), and peanuts changed me around in 36 hours. I don't effin' believe it, and still attribute it to coincidence.

Good deal Mr. Iron. I'm looking forward to some more of your writings on the beast.

Licensing and insurance. The only downfall to multi-bike ownership. It's such a pain. Here we have to an inspection. I wish they would just let me send them money. It's really all they want anyway's.

No taters or maters,,, holy crap. Whats left?

Good luck with the new ride.

Thank you all!

And I've been off milk and wheat for 10 years...

So I've got rice, sweet potato and buckwheat.. all the proteins... mushrooms...

I do well cooking for myself, but eating fast food is out, and eating at a mom&pop restaurant works (Man I love those! Give me a counter-seat these days) because the ingredients are straight-up and the ones I've adopted to keep alive during The Pandemic make the adjustments I need.

I can't wait to get the lights back on it and head out into California.

This is a lot of bike for the money. $4,750.00. I bet a roll of forty Benjamin's would get it..

Looking these machines up on Wiki, they were made as a parallel twin, (2MA/1KT) a reverse cylinder parallel twin, (3MA) and finally a V-twin (3XV) like this one, which came in a number of variants.

I wonder how much they want for it.

Re: Craigslist Curiosities

Got me thinking about "reverse head" motors. Due to the design of the cylinder head and barrels of the Triumph twins of the '50 '60s the cylinder head could be easily reversed giving a "reverse-head" or "reverse cylinder" motor.

Depending on the cams fitted, the size of the associated valves and the piston valve cutouts, you could actually simply reverse the cylinder head to achieve this.

Theoretically, with forward facing carburetor(s), this would give you marginal supercharging at speed due to the forward motion of the machine. It would also give you lack of cooling for the exhaust ports!

I think it was done mainly for drag racing machines to give more room for a supercharger.

I've heard that carbs out front leads to icing problems.
They need that pool of heat that lives behind the head.

That 1989 Yamaha TZ250 with the rear exit pipes... I still lust after that model. It seemed lie such an elegant design. But the Vee-Twin engine is narrower.
