Allred,
Do you know if the BSA tanks were all chrome and then painted? Another words, if the paint is removed would the entire tank be chrome?

I am not absolutely certain, but I don't believe so. I don't have any memories of removing paint from a Beeza tank, nor witnessing a paint chip that revealed a chrome under-base.

Practical cost would indicate that they would not chrome the whole tank, and also it would be easier to get paint to stick to a bare surface rather than chrome. And, if we look closely at that picture of the craigslist Santa Monica blue Lightning it shows an area of paint peeling off near the gas cap, and it doesn't look to reveal any chrome underneath.

So, my bet would be that the chromed area is restricted to the non-painted area only.

I've seen pics of BSA tanks online that appear to have been fully chromed, but wonder if this has been done aftermarket?

These pics seem to indicate partial chroming, the chrome "side panels" are in reasonably good shape, but the "painted" area has succumbed to the ravages of time.

Not chroming the whole tank makes since. Why spend the extra effort and expense just to cover it with paint. Plus chrome would be harder for the paint to adhere to.

My Dads '67 was all chrome and I've seen others that was as well. As a matter of fact there is this '66 BSA that is for sale at the RE dealer that has a chrome tank that I've had my eye on.

It's been for sale since at least 2016. It belongs to the guitarist from our area who is now in Guns N Roses so they figured it was worth a ton. They wanted $10k back then. It's now down to $6,600.00
Maybe next year it will come down to a more realistic number.

Under 10K. I would think above 10 would be the price.

yeah,,, uuhhh,,, no. Custom paint = less money. Especially in this case.

Katana's can be picked up around these parts for a couple grand to $5k for really nice ones. I think that's more of a $3-$4k cicle. But what do I know.
Maybe he really wants to keep it.

Lowest price I've seen on a Zero yet.

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/d/saint-louis-2016-zero-fxs65/7256207368.html

I want to give Zero ownership a try and that is the price point I'm interested in playing at but this one would need to come with a place to store a milk crate I could have easy access to so I could through it down at stops.

There are times my blinders have been on but rarely have my buyers been wearing them when selling that
 same bike.
