Great selection.
In my light colored pigmented world I'd never heard of Burnside until one day coming home from work about 15 years ago ansick of the usual blah blah of talking djs and commercials I switched over to public radio and It's Bad You Know was playing. Radio went instantly to full volume.
When I pulled into the driveway it was still playing and I sat in the car until it was finished. The dj didn't announce who it was. I went in the house and immediately starting searching for that song on YouTube. Found out who the artist was, searched more of his work and then hit the online CD places to find the It's Bad You Know CD and had it coming in the mail asap. I would like to have it on lp as well.
Great artist. Found out he had his grandson on drums on that album.

To say he lived a colorful life is an understatement.

I discovered him off The Hell Drivers vid.
The 4th post in this thread.

Like you Kirk, I tracked him down on YouTube.

Yup, Canned Heat, the one Johnson sung about, originated from the name of a drink during the outlawing of the devils drink. It was a mix of Sterno and lemons and then drained through a sock or cheese cloth.

Canned Heat’s initiation to band members was to drink the sterno drink. There first album has them all sitting around a table with all the ingredients for the drink.

Unfortunately Canned Heats lead singer, Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson, became a member of the “27” club by an overdose of reds.

Ya.  I’ve read he liked to sleep out under the stars at times, in a sleeping bag.

That’s where they found him.

In some woods behind a band members house in the morning.

In a sleeping bag, ODd.

Bummer.

The big freezer in the garage ain’t defrosting, a motorcycle ain’t  sparking, a water pump ain’t a pumpin,
and a lawn mower ain’t a mowing.

Everything is broken.

https://youtu.be/pndhO5DcSI0?si=WIXTcGKBcVig0AK5

Broken lines, broken strings
Broken threads, broken springs
Broken idols, broken heads
People sleeping in broken beds
Ain't no use jiving, ain't no use joking
Everything is broken

Broken bottles, broken plates
Broken switches, broken gates
Broken dishes, broken parts
Streets are filled with broken hearts
Broken words never meant to be spoken
Everything is broken

Seem like every time you stop and turn around
Something else just hit the ground

Broken cutters, broken saws
Broken buckles, broken laws
Broken bodies, broken bones
Broken voices on broken phones
Take a deep breath, feel like you're choking
Everything is broken

Every time you leave and go off someplace
Things fall to pieces in my face

Broken hands on broken ploughs
Broken treaties, broken vows
Broken pipes, broken tools
People bending broken rules
Hound dog howling, bull frog croaking
Everything is broken

Ya Curt, that’s a snappy tune that kinda captures what’s going on, real time, around my place 😕

The Marshall Tucker one……..yeah it’s out there a good bit.

The reason I put it up, first it’s a good song.
Plus, it’s a live version, that if you listen to it, is about as close to the studio release as a group could get imo.
They’ve probably played that one 1,000 times before when
this vid was shot.

And they still did a great job, giving that audience what they expected, what they paid for.

Can’t You See used to get a lot of play yesteryear. Not so much anymore. It’s one of my favorite Marshal Tucker tunes. I spin it on my old Benjamin Macarod turntable. Sounds perfect.

I can’t listen to that song without thinking of our old friend Uncle Ernie.
