Aleix, post-Q, "I hate to say that I was scared. You always have to say that you have respect, but today, no I am sorry today, I was scared... For me this is like a victory. I hate these conditions."

Remy Gardner:

“It was my first time with the Michelins in kind of mixed [conditions] for me, and Jesus Christ, they are not nice on [wet] patches, the Michies. I think until you get it scrubbed in really,” said Gardner.

“I went through the puddle the water stayed on the tyre and as I turned in the water hadn’t got off the tyre yet and just f***ing flicked [me].”

Bagnaia’s crash was similar, coming moments after he’d tagged a wet patch.

Yet Gardner himself has remained insistent that the track at that point was already too dry for wet rubber.

“It wasn’t way too wet for slicks. It was kind of – even in the wet you had these rivers, just where the water would accumulate, and that’s where guys were crashing, aquaplaning. And then you had the corners that were completely dry.

“I saw it quite ready for slick. Just really one of those stupid f***ing rivers caught me out, to be honest, that’s about it.”

When Bagnaia crashed in FP I saw him scoop up in the rocks. Of course my mind went to "OH CRAP, Did he loose a thumb or finger?!"
Between the rivers and rocks I'd say these guys had hellish track time.
I would say these gladiators have a right to be scared.

Portugal was not kind.

Fernandez from Tech3 KTM has been declared unfit because of a hand injury from his highside in qualifying. Bruising weekend for many.

As I sit here on my soft couch with aching hips from yesterdays 300+ mile ride and an arthritic left hand caused by a sharp & crashed Goldwing, I'm watching warmup, seeing Bagnaia rubbing his taped up shoulder and my mind goes to wondering, How much pain will these young guys be in when they hit the golden anniversary of their birth?

Rossi was watching track side. At his age of 43 he still looks pretty spry. Will it be the same at 50?
Of course these guys have all the expert care and the exercise daily but being slammed to the ground with the G forces they are from these highsides has got to be wearing bones, joints and cartilage.

Yes, Sir, are a hardass madman; I'd pick you for any mission.

Thanks for the link to the gravel issue.  I'm not sure crushing it all will work. Won't that produce a field of sharp-edged rocks?

As long as your mission includes tacos.

Yes, Sharp rocks is all I see coming from just a crushing. Maybe run them through a ball mill or they could just run over to the Show-Me State for some good ol' Meramec River rock. Mother nature's been polishing that for several years now.

That is fascinating. Thank you!

As a rear brake aficionado, I dig the  expansion of my understanding.

I also dig not being a part of a comments section.

Didn’t see that coming.
I guess the cost is just too high.

I had a weird feeling about this - but I figured it would be Yamaha.

Makes sense though for Suzuki to go. They seem to be the least vibrant company.
Kawasaki got out, and they have an entire manufacturing empire behind them.

Thank you for the links.
I didn’t realize that Suzuki sold so few bikes.
I think I read somewhere that Ducati sells around 60k bikes a year. How can they afford as many racers and Suzuki can’t afford two?

Pretty simple ,fat2. Suzuki sells a lot of tiddlers thst don’t produce the money per vehicle that Ducati and Ktm do.
As to Japan bikes I have favored Suzuki . But that was in the 70’s. Much better quality than Kawasaki . More advanced machines than Honda and better looking than Yamaha.
If they made an affordable dp 250 I would likely buy one.
I don’t know why they didn’t persue the dude by side market. The Samurai was was pretty close to one.

The Samurai is something that they could of really ran with. Suckers would go just about anywhere and four wheeler guys love them.
Around here Jeep’s are all the rage. Big wheels, jacked up to the 2nd floor and they are $50k or more.
If Zuk would of stayed with it they could be getting a good slice of that mud pie.

I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that Ducati can spend millions on racing by only selling 60,000 bikes per year.
Must be why I can’t get an Italian equivalent of a ninja.

Being owned by Audi through its Italian sub company Lamborghini I’m sure helps.
